Harrison Police
Department
Chief: Anthony Marraccini
The Harrison Police Department is located at the corner of North
Street and Pleasant Ridge Road (adjacent to the Hutchinson Parkway).
Emergency telephone number: 911
General number: 967-5111 Extension “0”
The department is community-oriented in its policing policies and
procedures.
Special Units
•The Youth Division: A specially trained youth officer is
assigned to all complains and incidents involving juveniles (youth
under the age of 16).
This officer acts as the liaison between the police department and
the cultural, civic, religious
organizations and the school district. This officer assists the
department with all youth activities.
•The Canine Division, K-9: The specially trained K-9 officers
are each assigned a dog full-time on a round the clock basis. This
fosters the bond that must exist between them to allow for the best
interaction when the need arises. Our Canine Division is one of the
premier divisions in Westchester
County and is called upon by other police departments for assistance
in tracking suspects. Currently we have 2 K-9 dogs.
Fire Districts
Harrison is served by five fire
districts, manned mostly by volunteers and supplemented by career
firefighters in the Downtown District only.
District #1, the West Harrison area, covers eleven square
miles and is entirely manned by volunteer firefighters.
http://westharrisonfd.org/
District #2, the Downtown area, has fourteen career
firefighters and 70 volunteer firefighters.
District #4, Purchase area is served by 50 volunteer
firefighters.
http://www.purchasefd.com
Each Department elects its own chiefs and officers. All firefighters
attend drills and training sessions, to maintain and improve their
firefighting and rescue skills, so that they can function at maximum
efficiency when needed.
FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICTS
Fire Protection District #3 is served by the Rye City Fire
Department, under a contract with Harrison. It is a small section
close to the Rye border.
Fire Protection District #5, North Castle Border is served by
the West Harrison Fire District #1.
Harrison has an excellent fire insurance rating, which reflects the
opinion of the insurance companies that we have good Departments and
good protection.
Harrison EMS
As one of the Finest EMS Services in Westchester
County, Harrison EMS has earned the reputation and respect of being
the service that is capable of delivering the highest standard of
care in any environment, anytime, anywhere.
Utilizing the newest technology and the most
experienced career staff, Harrison EMS is dedicated to the call for
service, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. As of 1999
we are no longer a volunteer agency and we have a VERY strict hiring
process that is demanding on the people hired to ensure that the
residents of this community and those who pass through are treated
with the highest standard of pre-hospital care.
Over the past 2 years our Explorer Post has taken off.
Harrison EMS is sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America (Post 2070)
to provide a program to teenagers from 16 to 21 years of age,
discover what a career in EMS would be like. It allows them to
become a Junior Member and to ride on the ambulance with the crews.
We will provide all the training and equipment you will need, all
you have to do is come in and fill out an application with a parent
or guardian and you are on your way.
Harrison EMS is still an IRS approved 501(c) 3
non-profit organization. So donations are always welcomed and 100%
tax deductible.

The
Purchase Free Library is chartered by the State of New York to serve
residents of Purchase, West Harrison and Harrison.
Visitors to our library find us charming. While we are members of
the very modern Westchester Library System, our physical plant
is, traditional and old-fashioned, one might even say quaint.
Located in the Purchase Community House, a Harrison landmark, we
occupy the space that originally belonged to the first Purchase post
office.
Our exterior and interior spaces are traditional, but our collection
of books, DVDs, and magazines is decidedly up-to-the-minute. We
choose our materials very carefully, with an eye to both quality and
public demand. Library visitors have access through our public
computers to the Westchester Library System Catalog, with all the
information contained therein, as well as the internet.
Our courteous and friendly staff gives every visitor their
individual attention, to make sure that their requirements are met.
As members of the powerful Westchester Library System, we have acess
to and can obtain any book, DVD or CD in the county for you in a
very short time. Express books and DVDs, are always available in
the library! Because these items cannot be reserved, you never know
what treasure you may find when you come here!
As part of our outreach, Purchase Free Library publishes a
newsletter, which details upcoming events at the library, gives
information on new books and new programs being offered throughout
the year. Newcomers and longtime residents are invited to join our
adult book groups. Parents are invited to sign their children for
our outstanding children's events.
We have an active Friends group, which sponsors many of our programs
for adults and children. The Friends are always looking for
new members. If you wish your name added to the Friends
contact list, or would like to become more involved, with the
Friends, please contact the library at 914-948-0550.
HARRISON PUBLIC LIBRARY AND WEST HARRISON BRANCH:
The Harrison Public Library and West Harrison Branch are chartered
by the State of New York to serve the residents of the Town-Village
of Harrison. The library welcomes people of all ages to pursue their
goals for self-enrichment and lifelong learning. A library card is
free to all Harrison residents and to those who work, attend school
or own property in Harrison. The library is a member of the
Westchester Library System, and a Harrison Library card is honored
at all 38 public libraries in Westchester.
Collections include a wide variety of materials, including over
104,000 books, video cassettes, compact discs, books-on-tapes,
magazines, large print books, and toys. In addition, literacy, job
information, and business reference books are available. Our public
catalog in CD-ROM and automated on-line format is available for use
at both buildings. Microcomputers and software are available for use
in the Children's Departments of both library facilities.
Interlibrary loan, Internet and database searching are available.
Our children's librarians give personal attention to children, their
families, and teachers, in selecting materials for school work and
reading. Toddlers, pre-schoolers and school-age children can enjoy a
variety of activities throughout the year. In addition to weekly
pre-school story time, our librarians conduct film, computer and
craft programs, and on special occasions guest artists are featured.
A highlight of every year is our summer reading game which generates
reading excitement among the many young participants. Concerts,
lectures and art exhibits are regularly scheduled in the Library's
community room. The room is also available to civic and community
organizations for meetings. The Friends of the Harrison Public
Library, a volunteer organization, helps support library services
with contributions that sponsor programs for adults and children and
enhance the Library's collection. Membership information is
available at all the service desks in the Library.
