Roadway Rehabilitation - Commencing Monday, May 22, 2017

Commencing  May 22, 2017:  The following roadways will be rehabilitated using a technique known as “Cape Seal”.  This is a three step process.  First, rut filling and crack sealing of existing roadways will be performed to reduce surface imperfections and eliminate surface water penetration into the base and sub base roadway layers.

This is followed by a “Chip Seal”.  This is an economical treatment consisting of a spray applied asphalt emulsion which is placed on the existing roadway using a pressurized distributor truck.  Immediately after application of the emulsion, a self propelled chip spreader applies a layer of crushed aggregate or chips.  Rollers are then used to firmly embed and lock the chips into the emulsion layer creating a tightly knit riding surface.

Finally, after about one week an asphalt “Slurry Seal” is placed over the chip seal which further locks in the Chip Seal aggregate, provides additional waterproofing and skid resistance and provides an enhanced aesthetic finish similar to a hot mix overlay at a substantially reduced cost.  This is performed over a period of two consecutive days.

Intermittent detours and/or road closures can be expected during the performance of the work.
