Domestic Violence

Can be defined as any violent act in the home, between an adult, children and other adult family members. Domestic Violence can also be determined as any abusive, threatening or violent behavior between two intimate partners. Domestic Violence can occur anywhere and happen to anyone of any race, culture or economic status. It highly affects both partners, the children and the friends and family members involved. There are various signs that the victims of Domestic Violence should be aware of.

Signs to look out for:

  • If the aggressor is possessive. Sees the victim as “their” property.
  • Jealousy. The aggressor dislikes the attention the victim receives from others.
  • If the aggressor pressures the victim into doing whatever they want. (on a sexual and affectionate level)
  • If the aggressor tries to separate the victim from who is most important to them. (friends and family)
  •  The aggressor does not take full responsibility for his or her behavior and claims that the reasoning behind that is because of the feelings they have for the victim.
  • Looks for the victim to be less dependent on his or herself and more dependent on the aggressor.
  • Expects the victim to not only pay for all expenses but to do majority to all work around the house, in the relationship and in other aspects as well.
