Preventing Burglary

Burglars go through neighborhoods searching for minor details that go unnoticed to most people. Unknowingly, we sometimes make it too easy for burglars to break into our homes. Below are burglary prevention tips to keep you, your family and your home safe.

Burglary Prevention Tips:

  • Be sure to lock all doors and windows to your home before you leave and before you go to bed.
  • Make your home looks occupied. (make it look “difficult” to break into)
  • If you are going away for a long period of time, make an arrangement for your lawn to be mowed so that is looks as if someone is still in your home keeping your property neat.
  • Make sure all alarms are always set, even when you’re in your home.
  • Keep your garage door shut and locked at all times.
  • Be sure to leave certain lights on if you are stepping out, so that it looks as if someone is home.
  • Never leave any set of keys under doormats, flowerpots or other "secret" hiding places you may have. (burglars know where to look for hidden keys)
  • Also make sure all blinds, drapes and curtains are shut especially if you leave your home.

Be sure to light up your residence and lock your doors at all times. The most substantial thing you can do is call the police to report any crime or suspicious activity.
